What is a Concentration?

BRAD KAYAL - http://www.bradkayal.com/

Brad Kayal focuses on printmaking and designs different logos, posters, computer ads., etc. for various companies including Volkswagen.

I think the underlying idea of Kayal's work is clean, simple, straight forward imagery to get across a point, advertisement, etc.

Brad's work has great visual coherence... the majority of his work is full of soft colors, and lines and is very clean!  Since a lot of his work is for different advertisements (posters, propaganda, etc.) I think it's cool that all of his work really flows together still.

Since his work is so clean I'd say the element and principle of art he uses best is line! For advertisements it is so necessary to be precise, and I think it is really impressive how he does so much of this with printmaking.

CECILE BAIRD - http://www.cecilebairdart.com/

Cecile is well known for her still life's (mostly done in colored pencil!!!!)

I think her underlying idea is to draw the most realistic images possible.  People often think her drawings are photographs!

Cecile only uses 2 mediums (colored pencil and oil paint) so I think that immediately gives it a coherence, but all her clean lines and precise details really create a strong continuity between her pieces.

For me, the element and principle of art that stands out the most is light!  In all of her images there is such a strong use of light and it makes it look unbelievably realistic.  In her drawings and paintings she is also great with her use of space and color.

The first 2 images are colored pencil, and the 3rd image is oil.

TYLER SHIELDS - http://www.tylershields.com/

He is an artist based out of LA - I originally heard of him from the show Mrs.Eastwood and Company because he is dating Clint Eastwood's daughter.

I think he really likes to make statements.  He is definitely not someone who believes less is more, or is into subtly.  He is also into controversial images which I think makes really bold photographs.

Shield's work is visually coherent because for the most part it is very bold and dramatic.  He also is great at focusing on color, even in his black and whites the values and beautiful and in other images the color is so bright and sometimes obnoxious, but it is always handled well.

I see many elements and principles of art in his photographs - color (as mentioned above), and value, and definitely emphasis! He is great at making one thing in a photograph stand out...lips, a bag, shadows, etc.

Summer Picture Project

For the most part I spread out when I took my pictures. I feel like this summer it was a lot easier for me to take 1000 photos compared to last year :)
